Resumen en portugues
INTRODUÇÃO A leishmaniose visceral humana (LVH) é uma importante causa de
morbidade e mortalidade no Brasil. Os métodos de controle até agora empregados não
são eficientes. Uma das explicações para o insucesso destas estratégias é a presença de
outros possíveis reservatórios, bem como as limitações dos métodos sorológicos
utilizados no diagnóstico da leishmaniose visceral canina. Técnicas de diagnóstico
molecular utilizando o DNA têm sido exploradas visando superar as limitações que os
métodos diagnósticos de rotina apresentam. Uma variedade de espécimes biológicas de
cães tem sido utilizada no diagnóstico molecular da leishmaniose visceral. O uso de
método de biologia molecular quantitativo (qPCR) é sensível e pode ser aplicado em
grande número de amostras.
