Being a complex matter that suffers interference of various factors, the indian
health become subject of great interest to the public health area. This article aims to
systematize the scientific production about the brazilian indian population health, on the
premise that the systematization of this knowledge can be useful to the better
comprehension of this important public health aspect. The variables selected to
characterize the studies were split into categories considering: 1) Characterization of
articles; 2) Characterization of the methodological approach; 3) Identification of article
themes; and 4) Characterization of the population. 132 articles from 1963 to 2008 were
analyzed. The articles are focused on the southeast and north regions. There were 45
different institutions from the main author and 37 periodics were chosen to publish. The
results indicate the scarcity of articles about health and life condition of those
populations and point to the need of more wide studies that involves in a more
representative way all this populational segment.
