Abstract
PVC has been widely used in the packaging industry, in the shape of flexible PVC film, for packaging foods. However, for this use is required the addition of plasticizers. Among the plasticizers commonly used in flexible PVC films are di-(2- ethylhexyl) adipate - DEHA. The possibility of the occurrence of the contamination of food by constituents of the packaging itself cannot be neglected. Resolution Nº 17 of ANVISA of 17 March 2008 establishing specific migration limit for DEHA in 18 mgkg-1 of food or simulant solvent. This scenario requires a monitoring of flexible PVC films sold commercially for packing food. To do this must be available a method to determine migration of DEHA. Resolution Nº 51 of ANVISA of 26 November 2010 establishing conditions for the migration test, but is required the in-house validation of the method. Aiming to fill this gap, this paper presents the validation of a method for the determination of the migration of DEHA from packaging for fatty foods. The test migration of DEHA was carried through contact of 1 dm2 of PVC film with 100 mL of simulant solvent isooctane for 48 h at 20 °C. The migration concentration of DEHA was determined by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector and a fused silica column coated internally with a stationary phase consisting of 5% phenylmethylsilicone. The method was in-house validated and considered suitable for purpose. The working range defined was 6-36 mg kg-1 and considered linear, with no observed lack-of-fit. There was no matrix effect. The method has adequate repeatability and intermediate precision and robust results for temperature and time migration of (20 ± 3) °C and 48 h ± 30 min respectively. Twenty five PVC film samples were tested, presenting results for specific migration of DEHA between 7.2 and 149 mg kg-1 of simulant solvent. Among the samples tested, 48% had results above the limit established by legislation. Ten samples had results below the limit of detection (0.52 mg kg-1).
