Abstract
The aim of this dissertation is to analyze contemporary trends in health work in hospitals, especially in Intensive Care Units (ICU), based on new forms of organization and management of health work. The starting point for this study was my participation in the Internal Accident Prevention Commission (CIPA) and in the construction of environmental risk maps (MR) in the ICU as well. The choice of the ICU is partly due to the lack of systematic studies about this subject, but mainly due to the high incorporation of technology, changes in the organization of the space it promotes and as changes in the care protocols as well. The purpose of this research is not to study the ICU, nether the hospital to which it belongs, but to think of it as representative of the forms of work organization and, mainly of the trends in health work as in the ICU. I used information from the field notes that I took, as a form of personal record of my experience, during the time that I participated in the preparation of the MRs. This is a qualitative study supported on documentary research on the regulation of the functioning of ICUs and on bibliographic research on trends in contemporary work, the characterization of the health work and the effects of the intensification and precariousness of labor relation on workers' health. The aim of the bibliographic research was to shed light on how the rearrangements of the neoliberal world influence the health sector, especially the ICUs, and what its effects are for workers. It was possible to conclude that the contemporary dimensions, pointed out by the specialized literature, of the world of work have a direct impact on the health workers in the ICU, due to the process of precarious work, the intensification of i (material) labor and the precariousness of the relations at and links with work.
