No Brasil, as análises sobre a polícia se detiveram, na maior parte, em seu caráter político-institucional, não enfatizando, todavia, suas agências internas e especializadas, como é o caso do Gabinete de Identificação e de Estatística (1903) e da Escola de Polícia do Rio de Janeiro (1912). Desse modo, a partir dos estudos mais aprofundados sobre a Escola de Polícia, toma-se por objetivo a caracterização das relações da polícia com o Estado, com a sociedade carioca do início do século XX e com os discursos científicos da época, procurando-se identificar de que maneiras as agências internas da polícia e seu processo de profissionalização contribuíram para a construção de uma possível identidade institucional.
Abstract
In Brazil, analyzes of the police have mostly focused on their political-institutional character, not emphasizing, however, its internal agencies and specialized agencies, such as the Identification and Statistics Office (1903) and from the Rio de Janeiro Police School (1912). In this way, from the studies more in-depth information about the Police School, the objective is to characterize of the relations between the police and the State, with the carioca society at the beginning of the 20th century XX and with the scientific discourses of the time, trying to identify what ways the internal police agencies and their professionalization process contributed to the construction of a possible institutional identity.
