Recentemente publicada, pela primeira vez em português, na série Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade da editora Fabrefactum (2010), “Gênese e desenvolvimento de um fato científico” (tradução de Georg Otte e Mariana Camilo de Oliveira; 224 páginas), de Ludwik Fleck, ao se dedicar à reconstrução histórica do conceito de sífilis enquanto fato científico traz à tona importantes conceitos e discussões acerca do caráter social da ciência. A obra chama atenção simultaneamente pela história que conta, pela sua própria história enquanto publicação, bem como pela história do seu autor. Histórias que se entrelaçam e são brevemente apresentadas no “Prefácio à edição brasileira”, de autoria de Mauro Lúcio Leitão Condé (UFMG), dando a esses elementos conjunturais um caráter convidativo à leitura.

Having been recently published, for the first time in Portuguese, in Fabrefactum Publishing House's Science, Technology and Society Collection, (2010), Ludwick Fleck's “The Genesis and Development of a Scientific Fact” (translation by George Otte and Mariana Camilo de Oliveira; 224 pages), addresses the historical reconstruction of the concept of syphilis as a scientific fact, thereby bringing important concepts and discussions on the social nature of science to the surface. The book draws attention due to the history it narrates, the publishing history itself, and the author’s history simultaneously. Histories that intertwine and are briefly presented in the “Preface to the Brazilian edition”, by Mauro Lúcio Leitão Condé (UFMG), give such cyclical elements an inviting nature when it comes to reading.
