São apresentadas observações sobre a variação horária e mensal do Phlebotomus longipalpis longipalpis, no foco de calazar de Jacobina, Estado da Bahia. No domicílio a atividade do díptero se inicia a partir das 17 horas, predominando das 21 às 23 horas, quando começa a decair até desaparecer às 7 horas da manhã. No interior de grutas o díptero pode ser encontrado a qualquer hora do dia, predominando entre 18 e 20 horas. O único dado climático que pôde ser correlacionado com a variação horária de flebótomos foi o grau de umidade do ar, cuja curva é inversa à do número de flebótomos.
Abstract
Observations were made on daily activity and seasonal fluctuation of P. longipalpis, the vector of kala-azar in Jacobina, State of Bahia, Brazil. The biting activity of the Phlebotomus inside houses started in the evening and it reached the highest peak between tem and eleven o'clock in the nigth; then the density began to fall slowly throught the night and diseappeared at seven o'clock a.m. Inside caves P. longipalpis could be collected during all the day and its density peaked in the dusk. Only the relative humidity had correlation with the hourly activity of P. longipalpis which was inverse in intensity.
