Abstract
The objective of this work is to contribute to the understanding of the scientific policy of the construction of the Amazonian nature through the description and analysis of the scientists actions, their dynamics and organization in the Brazilian Amazon. Its aim is to provide a general view of the whole policy through the description and the socio-anthropological analysis of the INPA, located in the Amazon basin, from 1954 to 1995. It is asserted that the scientists' actions in the Amazon basin are neither more, nor less objective than those of others. Therefore the use of the term "scientific community" is inadequate to denominate their associative way of living
