O objetivo principal do presente artigo é examinar as concepções de raça, gênero e sexualidade em circulação na produção científica da Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia, para isso tomaremos como base a tese Casamentos illegitimos diante da hygiene, de autoria de Luiz Ignacio Pimentel, apresentada no ano de 1864. Além disso, veremos os usos e significados assumidos pelas mesmas ideias na produção científica de outros médicos da mesma instituição e de alguns intelectuais brasileiros ligados a imprensa periódica. Ao fim, espera-se demonstrar a partir das concepções da história intelectual, como foram sendo constituídos as assimetrias de forças entre os grupos étnicos-raciais, os gêneros e em suas relações afetivas e sexuais.
Resumen en ingles
The main objective of this article is to examine the conceptions of race, gender and sexuality in circulation in the scientific production of the Faculdade de Medicina da Bahia, based on the thesis of Luiz Ignacio Pimentel (1864). We will see the uses and meanings assumed by the same ideas in the scientific production of other doctors from the same institution and of some Brazilian intellectuals involved to the periodical press. In the end, we will to demonstrate, from the conceptions of intellectual history, how the asymmetries of forces between ethnic-racial groups, genders and in their affective and sexual relations were constituted.
