Abstract
This study aimed to understand how health professionals perceive issues related to gender hierarchies and what are their possible implications for comprehensive mental health care for women. For a long time, asylums were used for the isolation, and control of female bodies. Within the psychiatric reform proposed changes, freedom-based care, respect for human rights, and promotion of citizenship were allowed. In the production of comprehensive mental health care it is expected the presence of reflection on situations related to gender inequalities, and their repercussions on women's lives and suffering. In order to reflect on the place assigned to women in mental health, the construction of a theoretical framework and interviews were carried out based on a semi-structured script with professionals from the psychosocial care network who also participated in the social movement named as ‘anti-asylum fight’.
