Abstract
The present research sought to analyze the socio-environmental and socioeconomic vulnerabilities faced in the context of the crude oil spill disaster on the Brazilian coast, in August 2019, considered to be of great extension and affecting 11 states in Brazil. The objective of this work was to analyze the work and life territory of women fishermen from Sítio Jardim, in the state of Ceará, in the context of the oil spill disaster on the Jaguaribe River, with a view to the visibility of the process of vulnerability of traditional fishing territories. The proposed methodology was participant research, based on narratives by fisherwomen and community leaders from the Sítio Jardim community. The results showed that the oil spill in the territory of the Jaguaribe River intensified the socio-environmental, socioeconomic vulnerabilities and those related to the health of the fisherwomen. The main impacts affected fishing, especially shellfish extraction, the degradation of the Jaguaribe River ecosystems, the loss of financial autonomy, food insecurity, and the worsening of mental health. It was also pointed out the absence of government sectors and certain entities representing artisanal fishing in the face of the oil spill situation
