A cobertura noticiosa da ciência da ciência e da saúde é ordinariamente marcada pela hegemônica, quase exclusividade, das fontes especializadas, principalmente pelos cientistas e médicos. Outros profissionais de saúde, gestores e pacientes esporadicamente são convocados a participar, a não ser enquanto confirmadores de informações já referendadas por fontes chamadas especializadas. O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar a participação dos pacientes na cobertura realizada pelas revistas semanais brasileiras (Veja, Época, Carta Capital e Isto É) sobre a controvérsia do uso de embriões humanos nas pesquisas com células-tronco, que culminou com o julgamento da Ação Direta de Inconstitucionalidade (ADIN 3150) pelo Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF). O movimento e associações realizados pelos pacientes, capturados pelo texto jornalístico, seja para apoiar, condenar ou mesmo abster-se em relação à aprovação das pesquisas, indica os embates contemporâneos entre saberes e a legitimidade pública dos mesmos, bem como evidencia as estratégias que os agentes utilizar para buscar uma inserção mais competitiva no debate público. A mobilidade argumentativa permite o uso de enquadramentos diversos na luta pela opinião pública.
