A prefeitura de São Paulo, com apoio do governo do estado, optou por uma abordagem policial e de internações compulsórias, em vez de cuidados de saúde, para lidar com pessoas que consomem crack no centro da cidade. O prefeito João Doria desapropriou e demolindo imóveis, supostamente para satisfazer interesses de construtoras e seguradoras. A cobertura midiática foi favorável, embora 53% dos paulistanos tenham percebido violência na ação. A comunidade internacional e até mesmo membros da prefeitura criticaram a abordagem "higienista". Alguns funcionários públicos demitiram-se devido à destruição do trabalho feito anteriormente na região. O texto também aborda outras questões problemáticas, como superlotação nas prisões, violações dos direitos das detentas grávidas e práticas abusivas das seguradoras de saúde. No entanto, há pontos positivos, como a inclusão de uma nova terapia preventiva contra HIV pelo SUS e manifestações pela igualdade de direitos. Além disso, profissionais de saúde buscam mais reconhecimento e direitos. O texto conclui destacando o aniversário do Programa Radis, uma iniciativa em defesa da saúde e democracia, e a disponibilização de parte de seu arquivo fotográfico para acesso público.
