amianto no Brasil.
A amostra
| pt_BR |

Abstract | It is important for the society as a whole, to know how exposed populations
formulate and respond to chemistry technological hazards. This study aimed to analyze
the perception of environmental risks and health of the residents of BJS/BA city, which
is an area especially involved by environmental exposure of asbestos in Brazil. Mixed
validated questionnaires were used on residents who attend the “Family Health
Program” of this city. The subjects of the study were selected according to the next
characteristics: specific age groups - from 20 to 35 years and the other group above 60
years; sex; time and of dwelling. The intencional reached sample comprises 83 subjects.
The results showed that the residents are aware of the danger by breathing the dust but
they ignore it, when it comes to asbestos environmental hazards. Towards health risks,
invisibility of greater chances to get cancer and pulmonary diseases also occurred in the
majority of residents of the city. However, when the word asbestos is introduced in the
same questions, the sense of risk, in the same subjects, increase highly. The issue of
environmental exposure to asbestos in BJS city presents itself as a sanitary and complex
situation, characterized by the power of the naturalization and familiarization of the risk
due to the sociocultural context in which it is inserted. | |
