acidentes no trabalho hospitalar. | pt_BR |

Abstract | This paper is aimed at analyzing the psycho-social dimensions of the biological material related accident in the health professionals work inside a general hospital. The vulnerability factors to HIV, the conditions, the organization and the hospital working procedures, the discrepancies between the ideal and the real practice not to mention some gender issues are topics we discuss throughout the research. By the year 1997, the Hospital dos Servidores located in Rio de Janeiro, recorded 53
accidents caused by biological material. In 1998, the Worker´s Health Commission notified 161 such accidents predominantly with women, out of these, 74 needed prophylaxis for HIV.
In our study, we carried out interviews in the HSE-RJ with 21 health workers among the different professional categories, which had the highest accident rate in the years 1997 and 98. A qualitative methodology was adopted with personal, secret and anonymous interviews held at the workplace and followed by a field record as well as observations from the participant. The psycho-social dimensions of the event were mirrored in the research through a dynamic and complex process involving and revealing the precarious hospital conditions, the psycho-social repercussions after the accident in the working and family environments regarding HIV/AIDS and the post-prophylaxis psycho-somatic reactions.
We underscore the emotional experience undergone by the laborers due to the working accident, the psycho-social consequences besides their perception on their job and the working environment as a whole. The Labor Medicine perspective is clearly registered in the accidents analysis keeping them at individual level and with a prevailing "unsafe activity" concept. One of the great problems is that the psychosocial aspect is not incorporated in understanding hospital bound accidents. This justifies the need for wide spread knowledge and capacity building geared towards workers in the Hospital Biosafety issue stressing the psycho-social dimension as an
operating factor in this field. | pt_BR |
