| Abstract in Portuguese | Com o presente trabalho, objetivamos avaliar a divulgação científica do Jardim Zoológico do Rio de Janeiro (JZRJ), pela mídia impressa, no período de 1945 a 2017, enquanto instituição pública. As notícias publicadas sobre o JZRJ foram classificadas, arbitrariamente, em três áreas temáticas: Educação, pesquisa e entretenimento, sendo que esta última foi a que apresentou maior divulgação pelos jornais avaliados, o que nos leva a concluir que a importância científica e educacional do JZRJ não teve a devida abordagem e divulgação pela mídia impressa. Por conseguinte, torna-se importante ressaltar que os Zoológicos deveriam priorizar mais a conservação, a Educação Ambiental e a pesquisa científica, partindo da premissa de que, só para conhecer “bichos”, bastam os documentários exibidos pelas televisões. | en_US |

| Abstract | With this work, we aim to evaluate the scientific dissemination of the Rio de Janeiro Zoo(JZRJ), by the print media, from 1945 to 2017, as a public institution. News published about the JZRJ were arbitrarily classified into three thematic areas: education, research and entertainment, the latter being the one with the greatest dissemination by the evaluated newspapers,This fact leads us to conclude that the scientific and educational importance of the JZRJ it did not have the proper approach and dissemination by the print media. Therefore, it is important to emphasize that zoos should give more priority to conservation, environmental education and scientific research, based on the premise that just to get to know “animals”, documentaries shown on television are enoughto. | en_US |
