| Abstract in Portuguese | O artigo pretende demonstrar o papel e os usos do comportamento animal nas rela-ções de missão feitas pelos missionários franceses Claude d’Abbeville (15? -1632) e Yves d’Évreux (1570-1632), que atuaram na conversão dos indígenas tupinambá ao longo da experiência colonial intitulada França Equinocial, no Maranhão, entre 1612 e 1615. A análise reflete sobre a conexão entre as categorias de animal selvagem e animal doméstico, considerando suas associações com as ideias de monstruosidade do início da Época Moderna. Um dos aspectos importantes do artigo é o exame das aproximações e distanciamentos feitos pelos missionários aqui estudados entre animais e humanos. | en_US |

| Abstract | This article intends to demonstrate the role and the uses of animal behavior described in the mission relationship made by the French missionaries Claude d’Abbeville (15? -1632) and Yves d’Évreux (1577-1632), who worked on the conversion of the Tupinambás indigenous population throu-ghout the colonial experience entitled Equinocial France, in Maranhão between 1612 and 1615. The analysis reflects on the connection between the categories of wild and domestic animals, considering their association with the ideas of monstrosity in the Modern Era. One of the important aspects of the article, regarding the use of animal behavior, is its discussion about the approximations and distances created by these French missionaries between animals and humans. | en_US |
