| Abstract | This article aims to analyze the movements of peopleand diseases in the context of the socioeconomic transformations resulting from the trade of slaves and cattle in the Captaincy of Piauí. The central argument seeks to demonstrate that circulation motivated mainly by trade not only intensified the flow of peoplein the region, but also had a significant impact on the increase ofdiseases. e The research is based on historical sources reinterpreted from new perspectives in dialogue with the historiography of slavery and health, with the purpose of identifying narratives and meanings attributed to diseases. The goal is to understand how illnesses influenced life in rural and enslaved areas, contributing toa better understanding of the historical and social context of the18th-century Captaincy of Piauí. | en_US |
