| Abstract | Objective: To perform a cost-effectiveness and budget impact analysis of rosuvastatin versus ator vastatin, using LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) and cardiovascular events as endpoint parameters within the SUS scenario. Methods: Statin efficacy regarding LDL-C and cardiovascular events lowering data was obtained from recent meta-analysis on those subjects. Medicine cost was based on ‘Por taria’ (government administrative rule) 2577 by the Brazilian Department of Health (Ministério da Saúde), as well as on manufacturer prices. The comparative cost-effectiveness analysis itself was done through Excel spreadsheets covering a 20-year timeframe. Outcomes and Discussion: Com pared to atorvastatin 10 mg, rosuvastatin showed higher effectiveness associated to lower cost for use with both basal LDL-C levels considered (160 mg/dL and 190 mg/dL). | en_US |
