Abstract

attending in a gynecological outpatient unit in Rio de Janeiro were asked to fill out a questionnaire containing sociodemographic, clinical and life style data, the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and Mental International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI). Results: The mean age of the participants was 57,5 (4,6) years. The prevalence of depression among postmenopausal women was 20.2%. The logistic regression analysis
revealed that depression in postmenopausal women was associated with severe menopausal symptoms (OR: 17,6) and lifetime history of depression (OR:3,9). Conclusion: In our sample, lifetime history of depression and severe menopausal symptoms are associated with high level of prevalence of depression in postmenopausal.
