Abstract
The control of Aedes aegypti is a necessity imposed by its involvement in the transmission of arboviruses to humans, such as Dengue, Chikungunya, Yellow Fever and Zika. The oviposition of the mosquitoes is triggered by some stimuli, among them, substances present in breeding sites from intraspecific larvae. The present study evaluated the effect of Ae. aegypti larval extract on intraspecific oviposition behavior. Laboratory and field trials were conducted in screened cages with 30 females/assay, with at least 12 replicates. The laboratory oviposition sites were glass containers filled with 150 ml. In the field, ovitraps filled with 900 ml were used. Extracts of larvae of Ae. aegypti in natura and lyophilized were evaluated using density of 1 larva/3 ml. Larval extracts were tested in comparison to infusion of grass and larval rearing water, as well as tested after trituration in ether, hexane and acetone. The analysis was performed using the Oviposition Activity Index test, non-parametric variance and ANOVA. Containers with in natura larval extracts collected significantly more eggs under laboratory (F= 14.79, Gl= 3.44, p<0.05) and field conditions (F= 12.94, Gl = 3.44, p<0.05). When compared to the infusion of grass and water of larvae, containers with larval extracts also collected significantly more eggs (F= 3.44 Gl= 7.10, p<0.05). Containers with lyophilized larvae extracts collected significantly more eggs under laboratory conditions (p<0.05) and (p<0.05). Containers with extracts of larvae macerated in organic solvents continued to collect significantly more eggs (p<0.05). Thus, it was observed that extracts of larvae of Ae. aegypti in natura and lyophilized stimulate intraspecific females for oviposition. The improvement of this knowledge may allow the use of the larval extract to monitor and control mosquito populations in the field.
