O presente trabalho aborda as epidemias de varíola ocorridas em Belém do Pará nos séculos XVIII e XIX enfatizando, a partir de relatos dos viajantes e registros dos Arquivos Públicos do Pará, os primeiros esforços de imunização empreendidos pelos missionários e governo colonial na região.
Abstract
This article describes smallpox epidemics in Belém, Pará during the 18th and 19th centuries, as reported in travelers logs and records from the Public Archives of the now State of Pará, including the first immunization efforts by missionaries and the colonial government in the region.
