Abstract
In this thesis I analyze the adventure of the changing work through the experience of
the “Program Health, Gender and Working Formation at the Schools”, with emphasis on the –
central – participation of the workers and union members, whose narratives about the work at
schools, tell us not only their difficulties, but also the potential of the transforming action
related to the promotion of health. My primeval aim is to reconstruct this experience by
means of the conceptual basis of a critical thought lineage (Marx, Gramsci, Freire, Odonne,
Schwartz and others) that considers work itself an educational principle and the work
experience a central reference to its understanding and transformation. Likewise, I pursue the
aim of a better understanding of the method of the Formation Program, focusing on its
educational aspects. The results of the dialogues and the interviews with both, narratives of
accomplishments and obstacles, gave me the possibility of visualizing different ways of
analyzing and interfering in the work, as well as the multiple ways (individual and group
oriented) of the educational professionals to be involved in their work activity, which was
stated, for instance, from the narration of a (successful) managing experience in favor of the
workers. Another discovery is related to the fact that the interviewed workers have referred,
as the main changes, those that happened in the way of seeing and thinking of the work
problems concerning to health. By means of it, I confirmed that the methodological principle,
used in the Formation Program, transforms the subjective elaboration of the workers in
relation to their own work, given to the fact that they don’t perceive or think of it in the same
way as they did before. Also, I verified that the Formation Program provided the union
members a more qualified argumentation on the work conditions at school, which, as a
consequence, impelled them to feel better prepared to objecting governmental policies against
the education workers’ interests, and being especially harmful to the group’s health.
