TUBERCULOSE NOS TEMPOS ATUAIS: DE NOVO UMA AMEAÇA?

Segunda maior causa de morte no mundo depois
da infecção por HIV, a tuberculose (TB) ainda
revela cifras muito relevantes em termos de saúde
pública. Segundo estimativas da OMS, 9 milhões
de pessoas adoeceram em 2017, equivalendo a 126
casos/100 mil habitantes, resultando em cerca de
2 milhões de mortes. O Brasil evoluiu com um
decréscimo importante da mortalidade e redução
na taxa de incidência de cerca de 2,5% ao ano,
portanto bem abaixo da desejável. Há três anos,
registra aumento nessa taxa, de acordo com o relatório do Ministério da Saúde, estando hoje com
73 mil casos novo a cada ano. Este artigo compara
a situação brasileira com a mundial e os avanços
observados no diagnóstico e no tratamento da
doença e suas perspectivas.
Abstract
The second largest cause of death in the world
after HIV infection, tuberculosis (TB), still shows
very relevant figures in terms of public health:
according to WHO estimates, nine million people
became ill with TB in 2017, equivalent to 126
cases / 100,000 inhabitants, resulting in about
two million deaths. Brazil has evolved with a significant decrease in mortality and a reduction in
the incidence rate of about 2.5% per year, thus
well below the desirable level. According to the
Ministry of Health report, there is an increase in
this rate in the last three years, with 73,000 new
cases each year. This article compares the Brazilian
situation with the worldwide and the advances
observed in the diagnosis and treatment of the
disease and its perspectives.
