Abstract
Comet 1P/Halley is one of the most famous periodic stars ever recorded by science, and is visible in Earth's sky every 75-76 years. The passage of the comet in 1910 moved the press at the time and the daily life of the population due to the publication of various interpretations of the phenomenon. In illustrated magazines, caricatures and cartoons on the subject circulated, representing a complex scenario that associated the astronomical event with the end of the world, political disputes and everyday life. The objective of this study is to analyze the caricatures about the passage of Halley's comet in 1910, published in illustrated magazines that circulated at the time, and to elaborate a proposal for the scientific dissemination of these images through a virtual exhibition. It is a historical analysis, grounded in the field of Social History of Science, which seeks to understand the interactions between Earth, heaven and society through this type of iconography. In addition, it is an exercise from the field of Dissemination and Popularization of Science, as it proposes a strategy to bring the non-academic public closer to this type of collection, through the web. It starts with the scenario of scientific dissemination, on the occasion of the last comet passage in 1986, until reaching a historical analysis of the caricatures produced in 1910. After curation, this iconography, and other selected materials (links, audios, videos and suggestions for readings), form a narrative proposed to be presented through the Google Arts & Culture Platform. The work concludes that the caricatures form a rich and attractive collection representative of the time, and that they can support an interactive, playful, viable and free digital narrative about the History of Astronomy in Brazil.
