O artigo aborda a imigração árabe na Hospedaria de Imigrantes da Ilha das Flores, primeira hospedaria fundada pelo governo brasileiro com o objetivo de receber, acolher e encaminhar imigrantes que chegavam ao Brasil pelo porto do Rio de Janeiro. Através do levantamento estatístico dos livros de registro de imigrantes da Ilha das Flores e dos relatórios do Ministério da Agricultura, pretende-se refletir, a partir da noção de “cadeias migratórias”, sobre as particularidades da presença árabe na hospedaria, em correspondência com as sólidas redes de sociabilidade existentes na cidade do Rio de Janeiro.
Abstract
The article adresses the Arab immigration at the the Hospedaria de Imigrantes da Ilha das Flores, the first immigrant hostel founded by the Brazilian government with the aim of receiving, welcoming and sending immigrants arriving in Brazil through the port from Rio de Janeiro. Through immigration statistics present in the Ilha das Flores immigration register books and the reports of the Ministry of Agriculture, it is intended to reflect, from the notion of “migratory chains”, on the particularities of the Arab presence in the hostel, in correspondence with the solid networks of sociability existing in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
