Abstract
The expansion of the concept of cultural heritage posed new challenges to the vision of bibliographic and documentary heritage, which provided the relationship between memory, history and identity to bibliographic material. From this scenario, this work analyzed the elements that conceptualize the Historical Library of the Ezequiel Dias Foundation (Funed) as representative of the documentary bibliographic heritage. Funed was the first branch of the then Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC), now Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz), and organized, in the capital of Minas Gerais, a reference library in science and health, which surpassed its founding principle and became a cultural and scientific. The library influenced the creation of a scientific community, the development of the city's medical field, the promotion of access to innovation, the arrival of numerous visitors, in addition to meeting the institution's informational demands and dialoguing with the main science centers in the world. The formation of the collection represents the cultural and heritage identity of the institution, of a social group or of an area of knowledge, and studying this collection means preserving social representations. The methodology included the stages of bibliographic review on the subject of bibliographic heritage and documentary research in the Funed archive.
