Abstract
Graphical Abstracts are abstracts in the form of images, infographics or other visual models used in the academic area in order to facilitate scientific communication that is known to contain a specific language and specialized content. In this research, a bibliographic review was carried out on the subject in addition to scientometric and altmetric surveys, using the Scopus and Altmetric databases as sources, as well as the use of data visualization tools in the form of graphs in the VOSviewer software. Thus, we combine information metrics methods with data visualization, and finally, the verification of the impact of this means of science communication through the alternative metrics obtained through Altmetric. We present what graphical abstracts are in the light of current practices and specific literature on the subject, carry out a scientometric study to list the actions of journals and the main areas of their use, and verify if graphical abstracts are presented beyond scientific communication aiming at reach science communication actions via Blogs or the main source of academic press releases, EurekAlert!
