Um debate de alto nível, abordando a questão da amamentação no Brasil. Afinal, junto com o leite materno, o bebê recebe saúde, carinho e proteção. O Brasil é o campeão mundial em bancos de leite humano, um processo de construção coletiva, que agrega um exército de abnegados que lutam a favor do aleitamento materno. A política de assistência à criança, à mortalidade infantil, o aumento da prevalência do aleitamento materno, à redução da desnutrição. A História do homem está repleta de episódios sobre a amamentação. A importância foi reconhecida inclusive, na Bíblia. Nela está escrito: Eu vos alimentei com leite, não com algo para comer, pois não era ainda bastante forte. Na mitologia, Rômulo e Remo, os gêmeos fundadores de Roma foram amamentados por uma loba. Os egípcios amamentavam os filhos até os 3 anos de idade. Na Idade média, o ato de amamentar foi mudado ainda mais. Textos médicos, passaram a recomendar o desmame cada vez mais cedo, apesar da taxa de mortalidade crescer assustadoramente. Enquanto isso, as ídias tinham o costume de amamentar no peito, elas por sinal fazem parte do primeiro relato sobre a amamentação no Brasil. Em carta ao Rei de Portugal, Pero Vaz de Caminha diz, que as ídias ficavam com os meninos ou meninas, no colo, atado aos peitos. Naquela época, amamentar era impróprio para o mundo civilizado, um ato indigno para uma dama. Por volta de 1870 surge o leite em pó, que passa a ser oferecido como o melhor alimento para o bebê. Após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, os países desenvolvidos viram a prática da amamentação ser deixada de lado, por economia de tempo, praticidade, a mulher começava a entrar no mercado de trabalho, além da estética feminina
