PENSAMENTO EUGÊNICO NAS TRAJETÓRIAS DE IGNÁCIO CUNHA LOPES E EDGARD ROQUETTE-PINTO

A análise do pensamento de intelectuais envolvidos com a eugenia tem oferecido novas perspectivas sobre o tema para a historiografia brasileira. Desse modo, pretendo tratar de duas teses publicadas na última década, considerando a trajetória intelectual de dois cientistas. A primeira foi defendida em 2011 por Vanderlei Sebastião de Souza e premiada pela ANPUH em 2013, denominada Em busca do Brasil: Edgard Roquette-Pinto e o retrato antropológico brasileiro (1905-1935). A segunda diz respeito ao trabalho de Pedro Felipe Neves de Muñoz, intitulada À luz do biológico: psiquiatria, neurologia e eugenia nas relações Brasil-Alemanha (1900-1942), defendida em 2015 e agraciada com menção honrosa pela CAPES em 2016.
Ambas acrescentam uma ampliação nos estudos das trajetórias de personagens e a relação científica internacional dos debates sobre eugenia e identidade nacional.
Abstract
The analysis on the thinking of intellectual actors involved with eugenics has offered new perspectives on the theme for brazilian historiography. In this way, I intend to study two published theses. The first is the thesis defended in 2011 and awarded by ANPUH in 2013 by Vanderlei Sebastião de Souza, named In search of Brazil: Edgard Roquette- Pinto and the Brazilian anthropological portrait (1905-1935), the second concerns the work of Pedro Felipe Neves de Muñoz, In the light of the biological: psychiatry, neurology and eugenics in Brazil-Germany relations (1900-1942), which was defended in 2015 and awarded with honorable mention by CAPES in 2016. Both represent a new perspective in the studies of trajectories of characters and the international scientific relationship of debates on eugenics and national identity.
