O MEU SAMBA ESTÁ DE LUTO: A TUBERCULOSE NA IMPRENSA CARIOCA E NAS LETRAS DAS COMPOSIÇÕES DE NOEL ROSA (1930-1938)

A pesquisa tem por objetivos identificar se (e como) a tuberculose influenciou no processo criativo do compositor popular Noel Rosa, morto aos 26 anos em decorrência da doença; e analisar a repercussão na imprensa escrita carioca das mortes dos sambistas Noel Rosa, José Barbosa da Silva (Sinhô) e Luís Barbosa, todos tuberculosos e falecidos precocemente. A obra musical de Noel Rosa é robusta com cerca de 300 composições. A pesquisa se desenvolveu a partir da seleção de 28 músicas que abordam temas variados como regeneração, sofrimento, culpa, boemia, cuidado e doença. A ideia central é identificar elementos que aproximem o universo criativo do compositor com a sua trajetória de artista sadio/doente, bem como indicar a apropriação por parte de Noel Rosa do discurso higienista, em voga na década de 1930. Além das músicas, três cartas escritas para seu médico, sua sogra e sua mãe são analisadas nesta pesquisa. Em relação aos jornais, estabeleceu-se um estudo comparativo da repercussão das mortes dos três sambistas a partir da seleção de 60 notícias, artigos, notas obituárias e reportagens veiculadas em 14 jornais que circularam na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, na década de 1930. O objetivo é identificar as semelhanças e diferenças na abordagem das mortes dos artistas, destacando especialmente a presença de um discurso de culpabilidade da vítima pelo acometimento da doença
Abstract
The research aims to identify whether (and how) tuberculosis influenced the creative process of the popular composer Noel Rosa, who died at the age of 26 due to the disease; and analyze the repercussion in the Rio de Janeiro’s written press of the deaths of samba composers Noel Rosa, José Barbosa da Silva (Sinhô) and Luís Barbosa, all tuberculosis and early dead. The musical work of Noel Rosa is robust with about 300 compositions. The research was developed from the selection of 28 songs that address varied topics such as regeneration, suffering, guilt, boemia, care and illness. The central idea is to identify elements that approximate the composer's creative universe with his / her trajectory as a healthy / ill artist, as well as indicate the appropriation by Noel Rosa of the hygienist discourse, in vogue in the 1930s. Besides the lyrics, tree letters written for his doctor, his mother-in-law and his mother are analyzed in this research. Regarding the newspapers, a comparative study of the repercussion of the deaths of the three samba composers was established, based on the selection of 60 news articles, obituary notes and reports published in 14 newspapers that circulated in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the 1930s. The purpose is to identify the similarities and differences in the approach of the deaths of the artists, especially highlighting the presence of a discourse of culpability of the victim due to the disease
