Este volume apresenta o Pavilhão Mourisco, edifício de arquitetura singular, também conhecido como Castelo Mourisco, e seu rico acervo. Em contraste à exuberante ornamentação de suas superfícies externas, inspiradas no estilo mourisco, o projeto arquitetônico do Castelo seguiu rigorosamente os princípios de assepsia e higiene em seus ambientes de pesquisas científicas biológicas em laboratórios, com revestimentos lisos e de cores neutras. Sendo concebido e executado com o que havia de mais moderno e sofisticado na época em termos tecnológicos, ambientais e de materiais construtivos, o edifício contava com um vasto repertorio de máquinas e equipamentos, modernas instalações de gás, relógios, sistemas de telefonia, eletricidade e de elevador, fornecidos em sua maioria por companhias estrangeiras. E, até hoje o Mourisco, por meio de sua arquitetura e acervos, é capaz de contar a respeito de uma parte importante da história da saúde no Brasil. Conhecer e valorizar o patrimônio cultural é fundamental para sua conservação, que deve ser feita com a colaboração de todas as pessoas. E você faz parte disso. Abstract
This volume presents the Moorish Pavilion, a building with unique architecture, also known as the Moorish Castle, and its rich collection. In contrast to the exuberant ornamentation of its external surfaces, inspired by the Moorish style, the architectural design of the Castle strictly followed the principles of asepsis and hygiene in its biological scientific research environments in laboratories, with smooth, neutral-colored coatings. Conceived and built with the most modern and sophisticated technology, environmental and construction materials available at the time, the building had a vast repertoire of machines and equipment, modern gas installations, clocks, telephone, electricity and elevator systems, most of which were supplied by foreign companies. And, to this day, the Mourisco, through its architecture and collections, is able to tell an important part of the history of health in Brazil. Knowing and valuing cultural heritage is essential for its conservation, which must be done with the collaboration of all people. And you are part of this.
