Abstract in Portuguese
O Brasil é o país que detém a maior parcela da biodiversidade mundial, porém,representa apenas 10% do mercado internacional de fitoterápicos. A indústriafarmacêutica tem contribuído para a melhoria da qualidade de vida, no entanto,há um conjunto de doenças, ditas negligenciadas, para as quais há um desinteresse comercial. O governo instituiu um programa de pesquisa e desenvolvimento para novos fármacos.Nesse cenário, foram levantadas informações relevantes sobrecinco plantas nativas ativas contra leishmania que poderão servir como base para o desenvolvimento de um fitoterápico, propondo o uso racional dos nossos recursos naturais, e contribuindo para a consolidação de políticas públicas específicas, que visam elevar a competitividade da indústria brasileira .
