A seringa é um produto médico, de uso único, não-invasivo, destinado à condução, administração ou introdução no corpo de medicamentos utilizados para a profilaxia, tratamento ou diagnóstico. As agulhas são produtos médicos, de uso único, que penetram total ou parcialmente dentro do corpo humano através da superfície corporal, podendo ser utilizada por diversas vias, e ainda para realização de biópsia, tratamento de canal, entre outros. Ambos os produtos são amplamente utilizados nas unidades de assistência médica, odontológica e hospitalar, tanto no sistema público, quanto privado. Estima-se que mais de 1 bilhão de injeções sejam administradas anualmente no mundo, e a ocorrência de desvios e qualidade nestes produtos podem comprometer um grande número de pessoas, causando um grande impacto de saúde pública. O objetivo deste estudo foi o de avaliar a qualidade de agulhas e seringas comercializadas no Brasil, utilizando amostras adquiridas no mercado, pelo INMETRO, seguindo a lista de incidências de desvios de qualidade registradas pelo sistema NOTIVISA e encaminhadas através de um relatório pelo UTVIG/ANVISA. Neste trabalho foram realizados ensaios para verificação da presença de não-conformidades na embalagem primária, rotulagem, aspecto e resistência à corrosão, utilizando um formulário aplicativo desenvolvido pelo LBAIS/DQ/INCQS, de acordo com os ensaios constantes nas NBR 9259 - Agulhas hipodérmica estéril e de Uso Único, nas NBR ISO 7886-1 e 7886-2 - Seringa hipodérmicas estéril Para Uso Único e também, de acordo com Resolução - RDC nº 185, de 22 de outubro de 2001. Neste estudo foram avaliadas 9 amostras de agulhas e 11 de seringas, sendo que cada amostra correspondia a uma marca comercial. Das nove marcas de agulhas analisadas, uma apresentou desvio de qualidade na embalagem primária, oito no item rotulagem e cinco no item aspecto. Quanto às seringas, das onze marcas de avaliadas, duas apresentaram não-conformidades no item embalagem primária, nove no item rotulagem e onze no item aspecto. A partir destes resultados, concluímos que existe a necessidade de implantação de regulamentos técnicos específicos para estes produtos, que apesar de serem classificados como baixo risco pela RDC 185/2001 da ANVISA, podem causar um grande impacto à saúde da população.
