A vacinação é a melhor maneira de evitar diversas doenças imunopreveniveis, como varíola (erradicada), poliomielite (paralisia infantil), sarampo, tuberculose, rubéola, gripe, hepatite B, febre amarela, entre outras. Contra a Influenza é a melhor prevenção para a redução da ocorrência da doença. As vacinas Influenza A/H1N1 contém timerosal como conservante e cada fabricante da vacina estipula um valor diferente da concentração do timerosal na sua produção. No Brasil, a legislação não especifica o limite do teor de timerosal nas vacinas Influenza A/H1N1. O limite permitido é especificado pela Farmacopeia Europeia, que estipula o limite máximo de timerosal nas vacinas de ≤ a 115% do declarado pelo fabricante. O estudo demostrou uma grande variação na concentração de timerosal de um fabricante para outro, ocorrendo casos de maior incidência de eventos adversos em uma vacina devido à baixa concentração de timerosal, demostrando ser necessário que a legislação brasileira estipule um limite para a concentração do timerosal nas vacinas Influenza A/H1N1 utilizadas no Brasil.
