Abstract
Objective: To analyze the fetal deaths investigated in the southern health region of the Federal
District during the years 2019 and 2020 in relation to prenatal care in Primary Health Care
(PHC) and risk factors involved. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a
quantitative approach, based on the F1, F3 and IF5 fetal death investigation forms from the
Ministry of Health previously completed between the years 2019 and 2020. Results: 71 fetal
deaths of mothers who underwent prenatal care were analyzed, with 62.0% (n=44) referring to
the year 2019 and 38.0% (n=27) to the year 2020. incompleteness of investigation forms for the
variables analyzed and failures related to prenatal care and family planning were identified.
Conclusion: Most fetal deaths occurred due to causes of death that could be avoided through
qualified and resolute prenatal care. There are challenges related to greater integration between
the health care network, restructuring of services available in PHC and focus on resolution and
quality.
