Abstract
The “clandestine sanitizing products” (PSC´s) are those that are for sale without the permission of the Ministry of Health, and present health risks since these are not regulated and do not undergo any type of evaluation as to the effectiveness and possible contamination. The use of this type of product increases the risk of damage to people's health, as they can cause allergies, burns, irritations, respiratory problems, injuries and serious intoxications. In case of ingestion, these products can cause serious health damage, even lead to death. This work aimed to carry out a survey of the commercialization of PSC´s in the neighborhoods of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, identifying the sale, categories, forms of presentation and storage of PSC´s. This study counted with the participation of thirty-five students enrolled in the Technical Course of Health Surveillance (CTVISAU) at Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic School of Health (EPSJV) in the period of 2018/2019 in Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). This study was carried out in neighborhoods in Central, North and South areas of RJ. The sale of PSC´s was verified in 80% of the comercial establishments. Chlorinebased products were the most found category. As regarding the labeling 64% of the PSCs identified did not have labels. Among the types of packaging of PSC´s, Pet bottles accounted for 68% and as for storage, 42% of the products were stored on the floor inside the comercial establishment. The manufacture of PSCs is prohibited by Anvisa. However, in this study it was possible to verify that the sale is a common informal activity and represents a public health problem. Therefore, the product of this research suggests more work on the topic and also educational actions such as that of CTVISAU, which address the issues of illegality of PSCs, as a way of guiding the risks of handling and using of this type of product.
